ACCESSIBILITY

A large number of international airlines fly directly to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at Sepang, the main entry point into Malaysia.  Please check with your local travel agent for detail.

WEATHER

Malaysia lies near the Equator between latitudes 1o and 7o North and longitudes 100o and 119o East and has an equatorial climate with fairly uniform temperature throughout the year. Temperatures range from 32o C during the day to 22o C at night. The annual rainfall ranges between 2,000 - 2,500 mm.  Light or mixed-fibre clothing is normal.  However, light jacket is recommended at the convention center.

ENTRY FORMALITIES FOR MALAYSIA

Persons entering Malaysia must possess a valid national Passport or internationally recognized Travel Document valid for travel to Malaysia.  Any person not in possession of a Passport or Travel Document which is recognized by the Malaysian Government, must obtain a Document in lieu of Passport.  Application for the Document in lieu of Passport can be made at any Malaysian Representative Office abroad.  Holders of Travel Documents like a Certificate of Identity, Laisser Passer, Titre de Voyage or a Country's Certificate of Permanent Residence must ensure that their return to the country which issued the document or the country of residence is guaranteed. The documents shall be valid, for more than six (6) months from the date of entry into Malaysia.

Visitors on social, business and academic purposes are to be guided by the following visa requirements:

Three-Month Visa-Free Visit
Citizens of the following countries will be allowed to stay for a maximum of 3 months without a visa;

One-Month Visa-Free Visit
Citizens of ASEAN countries  except Myanmar and the following countries will be allowed a maximum stay of one month without a visa;

14-Day Visa-Free Visit
Citizens of Iran, Iraq
, Libya, Macao (Travel Permit & Portugal C/I), Palestine, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Yemen and Syria will be allowed a stay of 14 days without a visa.

For nationals of Israel, visas are required and permission must be granted from Ministry of Internal Security.

As regulations may change from time to time, it is advisable to check with the nearest Malaysian Embassy before your departure.

CURRENCY

The local currency is Ringgit Malaysia (MYR or RM locally) and it is currently exchange rate is around  MYR 3.3 to  USD 1.00 or MYR 5.0 to Euro 1.00.

Major hotels and larger establishments readily accept major currencies such as USD, Pound Sterling, Euro, Deutch Marks and Yen.  Foreign currencies can be readily exchanged to local currencies at a bank or moneychanger.   Major banks are open from Monday to Friday (0930 - 1630).

Internationally known credit cards including American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club and JCB are accepted at hotels as well as larger business establishments in Malaysia. Travellers Cheques are accepted at banks, hotels and large departmental stores.

HEALTH

Cholera vaccination is NOT required for travelers entering Malaysia. Yellow fever vaccination is required for arrivals from infected areas and yellow fever endemic zones except for children under one year-old.

If a person is unable to produce a valid certificate of vaccination against Yellow Fever, he or she can be isolated until his or her certificate become valid or until a period of not more than six days from the last possible exposure to infection has elapsed, whichever occurs first.  Please contact your health offices for further clarification.

The registration fee does not cover insurance for the delegates. The Organisers strongly recommend that all participants provide their own insurance for medical care, hospital treatment and travel.

Medical care in Malaysia is of a high standard and there are several excellent hospitals in Kuala Lumpur. The addresses and telephone numbers of hospitals, health and dental clinics are available at the Conference Information Desk.

ELECTRICITY

Malaysia’s voltage is 220 to 240 volts AC using 3-pin switch sockets. You may require a 2-way safety plug should you be using 2-pin plugs.

PLANT QUARANTINE

All passenger must declare the following items to the Plant Quarantine Office upon arrival:  Plants and plant parts including fresh plant produce and processed products, soil and growth/rooting media, insects, micro-organisms, herbarium specimens and dried flowers.

Passengers from South and Central America and Central Africa are required to report to the Plant Quarantine Office on arrival.

FROM AIRPORT TO CONFERENCE VENUE

International flights will be arriving at the Satellite Building of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).  Kuala Lumpur city is about 60 kilometers from the airport.

1.  The Aerotrain will bring passengers from the Satellite Building to the lnternational Level of the Contact Pier.
2. Take the escalator down one floor to the Arrival Level
3. Clear lmmigration and proceed to Baggage Claim area on the same floor.
4. Proceed to Customs check and exit from the Main Terminal Building (MTB).
5.  As you exit the MTB, you can opt for either one of the usual way of getting to the city center; by limousine taxi or by train.


Limousine/Taxi

The best options for transfer to the city is by the Airport Limousine.  Two levels of service are offered, namely the Premier Service and Budget Service.  Vehicles offered under the Premier Service are the Mercedes Benz E220 and Renault Enviro MPV, while the Proton Wira and Daewoo Tacuma are used for the Budget Services. 

At KLIA, this is a pre-paid service and coupons have to be purchased at counters (tel: +60 3 8787 3678) reserved for this purpose at the arrival concourse (Level 3) of the MTB .  Please state your destination when you purchase your coupon.  Elsewhere, if you require a limousine to get to the airport, you can call the Booking Center at +603 9223 8080 (8.00 am – 12.00 am) or +603 8787 3030 (12.00 am - 8.00 am).  You have to pay the driver in cash and he will issues you a receipt.

The fare for a one-way transfer from the airport to the city center is about MYR 66.80 (USD 21.00) for the Budget Service and MYR 91.80 (USD 29.00)  for the Premier Service.


KLIA Express Train

The journey will take about 28 minutes from KLIA to KL Central Train Station (KL CAT) and and from there take the city taxi to the hotel.  The fare to KL Central is MYR 35 (USD 11.00) for single trip or RM 70 (USD 22.00) for return trip.  For more info visit their website http://www.kliaekspres.com.

However, if you fly Malaysia Airline, Cathay Pacific Airways or Royal Brunei Airlines you might want to check in at the KL CAT (Kuala Lumpur Central) IATA code XKL.  The minimum check in is 2 hrs before flight departure time.   The check-in service is provided for air travelers who hold valid KLIA Ekspres tickets.
